Σύντομη Περιγραφή:

Objectives of the programme and priority issues

(1) The global objective is to: support the provision of first order retail financial services, including sustainable and affordable banking services, contractual savings schemes, insurance products and credit for SMMEs and poor households in the province.

(2) The specific objectives are to:

• Develop new lending techniques, including strengthening of risk management capacities, risk evaluation methods (including scoring models), auditing, rating, and portfolio management.
• Facilitate the development of sustainable financial institutions to serve poor communities.
• Support the removal of discrimination in access to financial services.
• Support the development of informal financial services, such as burial societies, stokvels and community-based savings and loans initiatives, in order to stimulate their growth towards convergence with the formal financial sector.
• Enhance the capacity of funeral parlours that administer burial and other insurance schemes.

Priority will be given to proposals aimed at the development/implementation of loan finance/savings products, and/or the rendering of financial advice or planning support to low and middle income earners, and/or technical assistance to burial societies and stokvels in rural areas.
